Along the way, he has spoken with many of the most important and influential legends of Brazilian music. In this new omnibus volume, McGowan presents many of these interviews in complete and unabridged form for the first time. There are profiles of and/or conversations with iconic figures of bossa nova, Tropicália, MPB, and Brazilian jazz, including Antonio Carlos Jobim, Carlos Lyra, Laurindo Almeida, Sergio Mendes, Milton Nascimento, Antonio Adolfo, Airto Moreira, Ivan Lins, Djavan, João Bosco, Dori Caymmi, Gilberto Gil, Ricardo Silveira, Cristina Braga, Gal Costa, Luciana Souza and Lenine. Most of the twenty interviews are presented in Q&A form, preceded by a profile and followed by an extensive discography. Quotes from shorter talks are incorporated into the profiles. "The Brazilian Music Book," which was updated in 2016, is an indispensable companion volume to the author's "The Brazilian Sound" (now in its third edition).
